Popping My Comic Book Cherry

by Anna Mitchell

I’m a book nerd.  I do love movies too.  Comic Books?  Not so much.  I guess growing up I was always told that they were boy’s versions of books.  Girls read real books.  I have no idea who could have ingrained that into my head, but there it is.
Have I ever read comics?  Manga yes.  American comic books no.  My love for the Avengers movies comes from my love of all the handsome men in the movies and good plots.  Starting this business aventure with my fellow nerdy friends has put me with the gamer nerds and the comic book nerds.
I’m learning that comic books aren’t just for boys.  Girls can read them too.  I’ll be popping my comic book cherry very soon.  I wish I could do it on Free Comic Book day, but due to a death in the family I’ll be at a funeral and with family Saturday.
My friends have given me recommendations.  I’ll be going to a local comic book store and walking out slightly poorer but with a few comic books.  Stay for part 2.  See what comics I went with.

We are CapConDC

Welcome to CapConDC.  Our official business name is Capital Con DC, LLC.  But that’s long and stuffy.  Who are we exactly?  We are a group of nerds just you like you, who want to bring DC the best convention ever.  Our primary focus is science fiction and fantasy genre, but we invite all nerds no matter what their chosen fandoms.
Our main focus is to promote the fans.  We’re all passionate about our fandoms.  It’s the goal of CapConDC to make sure that fans have opportunity to gather together and promote the growth of science fiction and fantasy in the United States.  We’re in the best city of the world, we plan to rock DC.  I hope to see you at our smaller events.
The ultimate goal is to host a convention in July 2015.  Why such a long time away?  We want to lay a great foundation and also we need time to gather up funds.  DC is the greatest city in the world it also is one of the more expensive cities to host events in.  It’s a slow process but the end results will be amazing.
We hope to see you at our functions.  Introduce yourself to the CapConDC staff, we won’t bite and we love to hear from fellow fans.
